Keeping your jewellery clean & tarnish free.

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

The life of your jewellery can be extended by taking a little extra care and regular maintenance. Whilst professional cleaning and polishing is a great option, there are a number of things you can do at home.

  • Store your jewellery in an airtight bag or box to prevent it from tarnishing or scratching. Small sealed plastic bags can be used inside your jewellery box for protection against other jewellery.

  • Avoid contact with perfumes, creams and other chemicals. Essential oils and 'natural/eco products' can still tarnish your jewellery.

  • Protect jewellery from manual work, heavy impact and scratching.

  • With plated metals - clean them with a plain soft old t-shirt. Beware that a compounded 'polishing cloth' may damage the metal plating. Dry off afterwards.

  • With sterling silver use a dedicated silver polishing cloth (compounded) or a use a soft toothbrush and a mild household detergent in warm water. Be sure to dry off afterwards.

  • Clean polymer clay with a gentle baby wipe or damp soft cloth.
