Materials Information
What is Polymer Clay ?
-
Polymer clay is a type of synthetic, thermal-set, modelling clay. It contains a basis of polyvinyl chloride polymers (PVC), plasticizers, and coloring agents, making it a Plastisol.
-
Because it retains some flexibility after curing, it is very strong and durable making it ideal for jewellery purposes.
-
The Polyform & Kato brands of polymer clay that I use, have been certified as AP non-toxic. Both are latex free, phthalate free and lead free.
-
It is a feature of Salt Spray Jewellery to include beach sand, mixed media, scratches, markings and deliberate imperfections in the clay.
Which metals are used ?
-
The necklaces listed here are sterling silver. Sterling silver has a silver purity of 92.5% with the alloy being made up of 7.5% copper or zinc. Sterling silver is more durable than pure silver and may tarnish over time with moisture in the air or on your skin.
-
The Drop Earrings are either Silver plated or antiqued brass. Both are Lead, Cadmium and Nickel free.
-
The Stud Earrings are either gold plated or stainless steel. Stainless steel earrings may suit customers who find they have irritations and sensitivities to other metals.
-
Please read the Materials Info section for the product you are interested in to see the specific metals used.
Jewellery Care
-
Store your jewellery in an airtight bag or box to prevent it from tarnishing or scratching.
-
Avoid contact with perfumes, creams and other chemicals.
-
Protect jewellery from manual work, heavy impact and scratching.
-
Clean sterling silver metal chain and components with a silver cleaning cloth (available at supermarkets) or old t-shirt. For plated metals- clean with an old t-shirt only as a compounded polishing cloth may damage the metal plating.
-
Clean polymer clay with a gentle baby wipe or damp cloth.
